Oliver Eaton Williamson
Americký profesor Oliver Eaton Williamson se narodil dne 27. září 1932 ve městě Superior ve státě Wisconsin a patří mezi nejznámější ekonomy, zabývající se transakčními výdaji.
Karierní dráhu začíná na Massachusetts Institute of Technology, kde roku 1955 získává S.B., roku 1960 pak na Stanford University M.B.A., a roku 1963 pak na Carnegie-Mellon University Ph.D.(Economics). Za zmínku stojí, že byl studentem Ronalda Coase a Herberta Simona, kteří ovlivnili jeho odbornou dráhu.
Nyní profesor Williamson přednáší na University of California v Berkeley.
O. E. Williamson je např. členem American Academy of Political and Social Science, National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Econometrics Society. Je také držitelem mnoha cen a čestných titulů – v roce 2004 získává např. Horst Claus Recktenwald Prize in Economics, v roce 1983 Prize for Distinguished Scholarship in Law and Economics, 1963 Ford Foundation Dissertation Prize. V roce 2005 se stává mj. Doctor Honoris Causa in Economics na Nice University, 2004 Doctor Honoris Causa in Economics na Valencia University, atd.
Williamson stál také u zrodu vysoce oceňovaného odborného časopisu Journal of Law, Economics and Organization.
V roce 1957 se Williamson oženil s Dolores Celeni, se kterou má pět dětí – v roce 1958 se narodil Scott R., 1959 Tamara E., 1961 Karen L., 1967 Oliver E. Jr. a Dean V.
Tzv. Nobelovu cenu získal O. E. Williamson v roce 2009 mj. za zjištění, v jakých případech roste ochota ekonomických subjektů vést své transakce v hranicích firmy, ve své teorii firmy pojal jako strukturu pro řešení konfliktu a zjistil, za co se firmám vyplatí utrácet své peníze. O ocenění se dělí s americkou politoložkou E. Ostromovou.
