Finn Erling Kydland
Finn Erling Kydland se narodil 1. prosince roku 1943 v jihozápadním Norsku na rodinné farmě v Soyland, Giesdal, je nejstarším ze šesti dětí a jeho výchova byla značně liberální. Od mládí se zajímal o matematiku a ekonomiku a jako mladý muž vedl účetnictví farmy zabývající se chovem norků, patřící jeho příteli.
Titul B.S. získal roku 1968 na Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, titul Ph.D. pak obdržel v roce 1973 Carnegie Mellon University, USA.
Profesor Kydland přednáší v současné době na této universitě, tedy na Carnegie Mellon University v americkém Pittsburghu a také na University of California, Santa Barbara, CA, USA.
Ve své práci se spolu se svým společně oceněným kolegou Edwardem C. Prescottem zaměřili na objasnění fungování hospodářských cyklů a zkoumání sil, které řídí výkyvy hospodářského cyklu i ekonomické politiky. Jejich práce se netýkala pouze ekonomické analýzy, ale dle Akademie přispěla i k praktické aplikaci měnové i fiskální politiky v řadě zemí světa.
Finn E. Kydland je také dobrým sportovcem – hraje v Pittsburghu místní fotbalovou ligu pro lidi nad padesát let a velmi rád jezdí na rychlých závodních motorkách, zvláště pak na svém vlastním stroji značky Ducati.
Kydland je mj. od roku 1992 členem Econometric Society a držitelem ceny Alexandera Hendersona, udělené mu v roce 1973 na Carnegie Mellon.
F. E. Kydland je podruhé ženatý. Z prvního manželství s Liv Kjellevold má čtyři děti – Marty, Eirika, Camillu a Kari. Jeho druhou ženou je od roku 2004 Tonya Schooler, se kterou se podílí na výchově Joela a Rachel.
