Dale Mortensen

Americký ekonom Dale Thomas Mortensen se narodil ve městě Enterprise ve státě Oregon dne 2. února 1939. Profesor Mortensen dlouho přednášel na Northwestern University v Evanstonu, stát Illinois. 9. ledna 2014 D. T. Mortensen ve věku 74 let umírá ve Wilmette, Illinois.

Vystudoval ekonomii na Willamette University, kterou absolvoval v roce 1961, doktorát ze stejného studijního oboru pak získal na Carnegie-Mellon University v roce 1967. I když od roku 1965 pracoval na svém nynějším působišti, přednášel vedle toho mj. i na University of Essex, Hebrew University, New York University, California Institute of Technology a Cornell University. Byl činný i mimo Spojené státy, a to v Central Institute of Matematics-Economics v Moskvě, v Centre for Labor and Social Research v Aarhus (Dánsko) a také v Research School of Social Sciences (Austrálie).

Dale Mortensen patřil mezi průkopníky oboru, k jeho hlavním tématům se řadil především výzkum dočasné nezaměstnanosti, a to zejména etapy vyjednávání mezi zaměstnavatelem a nezaměstnaným.

Mortensen byl mj. presidentem Society of Economics Dynamics, patřil mezi zakládající editory periodika Review of Economic Dynamics, byl členem Econometric Society, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Society for Labor Economics. Byl držitelem mnoha ocenění za svou odbornou práci, např. v roce 2005 byl oceněn prestižní IZA Prize (cenou Institute for the Study of Labor). Profesor Mortensen byl ženatý, jeho manželkou byla Beverly Patton Mortensen, se kterou měl tři děti.
