Bertil Gotthard Ohlin
Bertil Gotthard Ohlin se narodil 23. dubna 1899 ve švédském Klippanu. V roce 1915 začal studovat universitu v Lundu, v roce 1917 přešel na Stockholm School of Economics and Business Administration. Strávil též několik měsíců studijním pobytem na Cambridgeské a Harvardské univerzitě. V roce 1924 mu byl udělen titul PhDr.. V letech 1925 – 30 působil jako profesor ekonomie na Kodaňské universitě, poté působil až do roku 1965 na Stockholm School of Economics. Byl i výraznou politickou osobností. V letech 1944 – 67 vedl švédskou opoziční liberální stranu, kterou v letech 1938 – 70 též zastupoval v parlamentu. Před koncem II. světové války působil jako ministr obchodu.
B. Ohlin se stal poprvé mezinárodně známým díky své kritice Keynesova přístupu k problematice válečných reparací Německa po 1. svět. válce. Vycházel zde z důchodové teorie platební bilance, kterou později Keynes přejal. Ve svých pracích z přelomu 20. a 30. let se stal v mnoha ohledech předchůdcem Keynesovy „Obecné teorie zaměstnanosti, úroku a peněz“.
Ve své koncepci zdůrazňoval především úlohu agregátní poptávky z hlediska cyklického vývoje ekonomiky. Za její nejméně stabilní složku považoval investice. Zdůrazňoval úlohu očekávání v podmínkách nejistoty, kterou chápal jako propočítatelné riziko. V této koncepci probíhají kumulativní procesy mezi cenami, fyzickým produktem a důchodem. Kumulativní procesy expanze a kontrakce v cyklickém vývoji vysvětloval Ohlin na základě principu akcelerace a spojoval je s výkladem příčin, proč tyto procesy nepokračují do nekonečna.
Ohlin se však neomezoval jen na uzavřenou ekonomiku, druhou významnou oblastí Ohlinova zájmu byl mezinárodní obchod. Celosvětově se stal v této oblasti významným svým dílem „Mezioblastní a mezinárodní obchod“ (1933), na jehož základě mu byla udělena v r. 1977 Nobelova cena. Ohlinova koncepce mezinárodního obchodu byla založena na teorii celkové ekonomické rovnováhy, v jejímž rámci se snažil integrovat peněžní a naturální stránku ekonomických procesů a kladl si otázku, proč vznikají obchodní vztahy a jaké jsou jejich důsledky. Spojuje mezinárodní obchod s obchodem mezioblastním na základě prostorového rozmístění výrobních činitelů. Vzhledem k obtížnosti přesunu těchto činitelů dochází ke směně statků, které jsou těmito činiteli vyráběny. B. Ohlin zde zkoumal zejména důsledky těchto obchodů z hlediska důchodových efektů a přelévání kapitálu.
Nejznámějším výsledkem této analýzy se stal tzv. Heckscher-Ohlinův teorém, podle něhož bude země vyvážet statky, pro které má relativně dobré výrobní vybavení a dovážet statky, pro jejichž výrobu má vybavení relativně horší. Tento teorém byl odvozen na základě teorie mezní produktivity a byl předmětem značné kritiky pro nesoulad jeho závěrů s empiricky zjistitelným vývojem mezinárodního obchodu.
Bertil Ohlin, významný představitel švédské školy, která na konci 20. a na počátku 30. let XX. století významně přispěla k rozvoji teorie hospodářského cyklu, zemřel 3. srpna 1979 ve Valadalen, Švédsko.
